Monday Made It and a CAFE Freebie!

I love Monday Made It! This week I made the adorable birthday balloon pot, but mine looks like more of a bouquet. In fact, I'm calling it my birthday bouquet. I first saw these on ProTeacher posted by Mariely. I think she might be the original birthday balloon creator. Here's my version:

Half-price flowerpot from Michael's ($2.50!), ribbon, bendy straws, and SchoolGirl's 3 in. scallop tags ($3.00).

And now for the freebie:

I may not be doing Daily 5, but I'll definitely incorporate CAFE, especially into my self-selected reading block.

Hop on over to Tara's blog for some other great Made Its!

  1. I love your straws! I've been thinking about making these too but I wasn't sure if I wanted to make candy ones or straw ones. I like the straws better!;)

  6. This is one of my many future projects. I've already cut and laminated my birthday balloons. Now I just need to decide what I want to attach them to! Would love for you to stop by my blog sometime!

  13. I used the same concept but since I teach Kindergarten, I used the Pixie candy and instead of flowers I used balloons.

  15. Is your colored polka dots something that you created or bought digitally? I'm looking for something exactly like it, but if it's already out there for purchase, I'd rather go about it that way.

    Thanks!

  17. Diana,
Some of the polka dots I made. Some I purchased from the Digital Bakeshop on Etsy and some I downloaded for free from DreamLike Magic.

  18. Did you make the owls birthday flowers? If so, is there some place I can download or buy them?

  19. Hi Jennifer, I purchased the owl flowers from SchoolGirl Style and just typed Happy Birthday on them. She has a Teacher's Notebook store.

  20. Great & inexpensive idea! Any chance there is a free or inexpensive download for the owl flowers on the crazy straws? Thanks.

  21. Do you use a scalloped punch for your straws? I have the same tags from School Girl Style and used by 3.5 scallop punch. I believe it is to big- what size did you use?

  22. TeachuKaren, You can purchase the polka dot owl tags from Schoolgirl Style on TN. They're very inexpensive.

    Stacy,
I used my 3.5 inch scallop punch but I had to be careful with some of the edges. You might want to check your printer settings and make sure the doc is printing as the original size.

  23. Okay, this is the 'some nerve!' post of the day. I am totally in love with your polka dot CAFE headers, but I teach second grade and in primary the A stands for Accuracy 'I can read the words.' Could you possibly add another A for us lower school teachers? Alternatively, could you give me a clue on how you make the cards? I saw where you got the polka dots, but I'm not sure what font you used, and I don't know if you made these on PowerPoint or some other magical program. I know you are sharing these for FREE, and I am terribly grateful, but help, please!!

  24. Hi, Elizabeth. I'll work on making accuracy for you! I used ActivInspire to make these, but I've also used PowerPoint. I like ActivInspire (Promethean program) because it is so easy to move, manipulate and color objects.

  25. Elizabeth, I updated the file to include Accuracy. Also, the font I used is called ABC Bulletin.
